The Second Nature Wilderness Depression Therapy Treatment Program is geared to help teens and adults acquire self-esteem and overcome the depression that controls their lives. There are four locations. They are in Georgia, Oregon, northern Utah, and southern Utah. Although depression is a major reason for the program, they also specialize in substance abuse, hyperactivity, oppositional behavior, learning challenges, and other difficulties that teens may be going through. The southern Utah location is the only one that is also set up to help adults. The adults that can enter the program must have a dual diagnosis, not only one, such as just substance abuse. Adults may have family issues, self-harm, or any emotional problem.

It is very necessary for the teen or adult with problems to attend Second Nature Wilderness Depression Therapy Treatment program. The program not only treats the emotional problems. It also provides education about the environment, local history, geology and health. The students are given writing assignments with each day's program. They can also earn credit and achieve a passing grade. There are various programs geared to a particular age group. The students can join the program at age eleven, and there are therapies for that age all the way into adulthood.

All of the equipment is provided upon arrival, such as sleeping bags, laundry bags, etc. There are healthy meals every day. The Wilderness Depression program has four phases. There is the earth phase, fire, water and air. Students learn responsibility and cooperation with others. The Therapy Program involves going out into the wilderness and practicing survival, learning what to eat, and learning about wildlife.

The Mountain Homes Youth Ranch in Colorado is also a therapeutic program for troubled teens. They offer the beginning, advanced and ranch phases. The Youth Ranch is also geared to help teens with the same problems as in the Second Nature program. However, this location only offers their program to ages 12-17.
