What IS Clinical Depression?
Clinical depression is a condition that many individuals experience around the world. What clinical depression basically consists of is more than just a little sadness, it can become quite debilitating to the individual experiencing symptoms of major depression. In this section we will discuss what clinical depression is.
Although to some it may seem endless, there are indeed treatments available for depression and can have the individual experiencing clinical depression feeling much better in a couple weeks or so in many cases.
Clinical depression is considered by many as a long term condition much like chronic pain and treatment of the condition must be continued for as long as your medical professional recommends clinical depression treatment.
In most cases of clinical depression, the individual affected cannot just stop the symptoms from coming on as they may last for days, even months if not treated.
Some of the common signs of clinical depression include a mood change such as that towards seemingly sad or irritable for no reason in many cases, lack of sleep or too much thereof, weight loss or weight gain, low self esteem, no pleasure in activities usually enjoyed by the individual and more. Please visit our section on symptoms of clinical depression for more information.
The reason behind these signs of clinical depression basically have to do with the chemicals in the individual’s brain including serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine as opposed to simply reacting to a painful event in life which can trigger sadness.
Many cases of clinical depression are caused by the chemical neurotransmitter called serotonin where either there is not enough serotonin or a serotonin deficit. In the case of serotonin deficit, the serotonin level in clinical depression stages may be caused by molecules not producing enough serotonin in the individual’s body or the body is just not receiving the messages or signals from the serotonin due to there not being enough receptors or the serotonin is being taken back from the synapse in the brain too quickly before it can even reach the receptor destination.
All of these instances basically cause the same event that an overall lack of serotonin or serotonin production in the body can cause.
Anyone can be affected by clinical depression and if these symptoms of depression are realized, it is very important to look into more information on what can be done to help treat clinical depression or major depression disorder so that the individual can get back to their daily pleasures in life after effective clinical depression treatment from their medical professional.
